WEB, Where Everybody Belongs

The Where Everybody Belongs (WEB) program, run by The Boomerang Project, is a middle school transition and orientation program where trained 8th-grade students (WEB Leaders) mentor incoming 6th graders, creating a supportive network to ease their move to a new school. Key elements include an energetic orientation day, ongoing academic and social follow-ups, and one-on-one leader-to-student connections to promote a positive school environment and help prevent bullying.

How the WEB Program Works

8th-Grade Leaders: Selected and trained 8th-grade students serve as positive role models, motivators, and leaders.

Orientation Day: The program starts with a fun and energetic orientation to welcome 6th graders and introduce them to their new school and peers.

Student-to-Student Mentoring: WEB Leaders develop a mentor-mentee relationship with the 6th graders, providing support throughout their first year.

Follow-Up Activities: Leaders conduct academic and social follow-ups, such as classroom visits and social events, to ensure continued support and connection.

Anti-Bullying Component: By creating a more connected and supportive school community, WEB also serves as a preventative anti-bullying program.

Benefits of the WEB Program

Smooth Transition: WEB helps make the transition to middle school less daunting and more positive for incoming students.

Increased Confidence:
Students who participate, both as mentors and mentees, often grow in confidence and maturity.

Safer School Environment:
The program fosters a positive and inclusive school climate by providing a cadre of student leaders who actively look out for negative behavior.

Long-Term Success:
A positive middle school experience, facilitated by WEB, is linked to greater chances for continued success in high school.
